General release: 25th June 2021

Piano-based single LONGING is an exploration of loss, nostalgia and hope

LONGING is the new single from London-based composer/musician, Aaron Wheeler – a.k.a THE LASZLO PROJECT. With more than 80,000 Spotify streams this year alone for his previous two singles (KYOTO RAIN and NAGOYA MOON), LONGING represents the third release from his much-anticipated new EP.

Originally composed as a solo piano piece (and later arranged for a trio performance at Cadogan Hall with LYDIAN COLLECTIVE drummer SOPHIE ALLOWAY and bassist IDA HOLLIS), LONGING represents the void of nostalgia and loss in the wake of a failed relationship, and explores the journey back to optimism.

Inspired by the piano writing style of Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi, as well as European composers from the ECM jazz label including German pianist Rainer Brüninghaus and the Jan Garbarek Group, LONGING features Sophie Alloway (drums), Ida Hollis (bass) and Michael Underwood (flute/sax), with a soprano solo homage to Jan Garbarek in the song’s outro.

THE LASZLO PROJECT has seen recent support from Jamie Cullum at BBC Radio 2, Spotify Editorial Playlists such as ‘All New Jazz’ and ‘Jazz UK’, as well as critical acclaim from the likes of Nick Luscombe (New Ratio Japan, BBC Radio Three), Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music) and Giles Peterson.

LONGING will be available to buy/stream from 25th June, and pre-order on Bandcamp from 18th June via https://laszloproject.fanlink.to/longing
